The Town of Upham is located in ranges ten and eleven east of township thirty-three in the extreme northern part of Langlade County. The first settlers came to Summit Lake in 1881. The town was created on November 16, 1894 and named in honor of William H. Upham of Marshfield, who was the governor of Wisconsin from 1895 to 1897. The hub of the Town is the small village of Summit Lake. Summit Lake is located 16 miles north of Antigo and 30 miles south of Rhinelander.
